The school has recently relocated and is now based on Highridge in Alton, Hampshire, GU34 1QW.
Alton is a thriving market town situated in East Hampshire in the district of Hampshire, near to the source of the River Wey. A weekly Tuesday market offers an interesting selection of food delicacies, pet food, clothing & fresh vegetables. Alton offers a delightful blend of historic buildings, modern shops and quaint arcades.
The Anglo Saxon Buckle
The Curtis Museum has one of the finest local history collections in Hampshire. it has a wonderful array of objects including the celebrated Roman cup found near Selborne as well as an impressive Anglo Saxon Buckle.
The Selborne Cup – Alton
The 11th Century St Lawrence Church in Alton was part of the Battle of Alton, where a skirmish in the civil war took place. This skirmish lead to some of the commanding officer’s men being shot in the church and pulpit, the bullet holes are still visible in the west doors.
In the village of Chawton which is very close by, we have the home of the famous authoress Jane Austin and there is a circular walk from Chawton to Upper Faringdon, which will take one past places of interest that Jane Austin once knew.
The Watercress Line steam railway goes from Alton and meanders through the countryside to the village of Ropley and onto Alresford.
Nearby in sleepy Selborne you can walk up the famous zig-zag pathway, enjoy the views and explore the hangers, or visit Gilbert White House and the Oates Collection in the village. This hidden gem was home to naturalist Gilbert White, the author of “The Natural History of Selborne” and has a wonderful 20 acre garden.
