Completing your Reiki Master level training?

The Level 3 teaching level

When may a level 2 practitioner start to think about their Reiki Master level training?

There is no fixed rule to this question. It really depends upon each individual. This level is the teaching level so therefore it is important that the practitioner has gained sufficient practical experience in order to guide and support any students that they may teach. The Level 2 student is only going to be an effective teacher if they have completed their apprenticeship of  being an active practitioner. One does not have to be a Reiki Master in order to be a successful practitioner. That is a fallacy.

When a student asks if they are ready to take their level 3 the following questions should be asked:

  1. Does this student understand the meaning of integrity & holding confidentiality?
  2. Has the student gained sufficient practical experience as a Reiki practitioner?
  3. Is the student sufficiently comfortable with all their level 2 tools & healing techniques  to explain their uses to others?

Back in 2007, when I was teaching Usui Reiki I was asked by a level 2 Usui Reiki student  if I would teach them level 3.  This student had received a solid basic training but lacked the necessary experience as a practitioner. I declined this request. I  suggested that they should first set up their professional practice and gain the necessary experience. I would be happy to help and advise them. They then went onto finding another Reiki master who was willing to initiate them.  I received feedback from a student of this Reiki Master who was disappointed in the training that they had received. It really does pay long term dividends to select your Reiki teacher with care.

Recently one of my Tera-Mai™ students asked me when could they do their level 3 training? Unlike my previous student, this student/practitioner had some practical experience and had achieved some wonderful results for their clients but they are still not familiar with the basic level 2 tools which are essential for passing initiations. My suggestion here to this student was that they needed to focus on familiarising themselves with these tools before we take them to level 3.

Level 3 is the teacher level, so it is really important that Reiki students complete their apprenticeship before taking on that next step of teaching Reiki to others. It’s the journey, not the destination.
